The random thoughts; Personally as I draw I make the general lineart of everything on a medium grey background to make sure the proportions are correct- and of coarse do that however you please.
After getting the general shape that you want the eye to be, make sure to keep things consistent, like how large both eyes are, and the eyelids, and peoples' eyebrows follow the shape of their eye, so always be sure to keep that in mind.
First, get the color you wish for the eye to be, and choose a few shades lighter than what you initially would want the eye color, and using the paint brush fill in the iris with the color, then begin to make the edges darker, color the pupil (obviously a very dark color, nearly black) and with a very small brush with the opacity at about five make "lines" coming from the pupil and to the edges of the iris, and feel free to make many of them, overlapping- it will give a more realistic feel to it. After making enough, go back to your base eye color and with a brush about the diameter from the outside edge of the iris to the pupil, very lightly go over again to get the correct eye color.
Eyes tend to be highly reflective, especially since they are so moist, and mind you, water reflects color, so also make sure to tint the entire eyeball slightly with the base skin color, or even at times the background color, depending upon the view, and the light source, unless it's from behind or above, will make a reflection on the eye.
For the "white" part of the eye.. don't use "white," go for light and pale pinkish/beige tones, and do not make it a solid color- eyes are similar to spheres, they aren't flat, so they will need to be shaded as such, like darker in the corners, and a tiny edge below the eye will be darker from shadows from the eyelashes and upper eyelid.
And speaking of the eyelid, note that the bottom lid has a bit of a ledge you should be able to see, and of coarse make sure to add eyelashes so your eye looks more human.
But yeah, I figured I might as well do an eye tutorial while working on the left eye of my drawing- but fucking a- it closed out SIX TIMES, without letting me save, so I nearly finished six times, but no- hence why I didn't even really spend much time making the tutorial look right. Hmph. But whatever, this is probably not helpful but if it does help anyone, that is great.
Fantastic tutorial! This is really helpful, seeing as the eyes on most of my digital portraits seem to be my main problem. Lovely job, and thanks so much for making this.

I used this tutorial once I got CS2 setup, and yes, it is a great tutorial. Though I am crap at shading, moreso especially the skin tone, so I gave up on that part. But I did do the eye! Yes, I did. <3
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
